We are so excited to announce yet another volunteer on our staff team!! Please welcome, Kacey Semler! Kacey is a social butterfly and we know she will be a great asset to our team!
Kacey Semler is a 29-year-old photographer from Staten Island, N.Y. She’s the owner of Sunflower Photos, which serves Staten Island, New Jersey and the tri-state area. In addition, she works full time as an editor for the Staten Island Advance, the borough’s only daily newspaper.
She’s excited for her new role as Social Networking Coordinator for Shoots for a Cure, as cancer has been a nemesis to too many in her life. Not only has she lost several family members to this disease, but she’s also watched diagnosis upon diagnosis devastate the lives of those in her circle of friends. Kacey holds onto the hope of finding a cure, and she’s honored to be part of an organization that delivers sunshine and happiness to those suffering from it.
Kacey’s passion for photography developed as a child, when she got her first camera in the late 1980s – it took 110 film. She’ll never forget the joy, and anticipation, she felt as a young girl, waiting for her pictures to be developed. Her love of photography grew as she upgraded to 35 mm and slide film; today, she’s a Canon digital girl. Kacey still delights in seeing her photos for the first time – though, luckily, now it only takes several minutes for them to upload onto her iMac.
Kacey cherishes her family, which is a rather large one – she’s the oldest of three, as well as the oldest of the 21 grandchildren on her mother’s side. In August, she became proud aunt when her brother, U.S. Marine Capt. Kevin Semler, an Osprey pilot, and his wife, Amy, welcomed their first child, Nathaniel (Nate) William. Her sister, Erin, attends law school at Duke University; her father, Brian, is enjoying his new career known as retirement, and her mother, Carol, works as a Registered Nurse, specializing in geriatrics.
Kacey is a lefty, an animal lover, a novice runner and a fan of all things Apple. While editing clients’ photos, she enjoys tuning into her favorite shows, some of which include Grey’s Anatomy, Castle, Glee and The Big C (about a woman with Stage 4 Melanoma.) She loves sunflowers, her cats, Mother Earth, smiling, and the motto, “Reach for the moon; even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”
