Cancer has taught me many things over these past six years. First diagnosed in April 2003 at the age of 36, my life soon became filled with numerous surgeries, chemotherapy treatments, and various appointments. Having the support of my parents, family, and friends is what has sustained me through the whirlwind of emotions. My husband, Joe, was most instrumental in my recovery as he never left my side. He accompanied me to all appointments and treatments and wiped away many tears. During the fall of 2003, life seemed to return to normal—a new normal. However, another bend in the road came in the winter of 2007 when the cancer returned. Not only did my husband, family, and friends rally again, but new friends rose to the occasion. I truly appreciate the love and support I experience everyday. My greatest joy, however, is waking up each day with my two “furry children” and my husband by my side. Joe, Carter, and Abby have brought so much love and happiness into my life in that no matter how I feel at any given moment, they make me smile (and laugh) many times during the day. They don’t care how I look or what I may be going through, they just love me—I’m the luckiest girl in the world!
